Description

Nelson stands on the southern corner of Tasman Bay, on the northern end of the South Island of New Zealand and is the administrative centre of the Nelson region. Nelson received its name in honour of the 1st Viscount Nelson and Admiral of the fleet that defeated both the French and Spanish fleets at the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805. Many of the roads and public areas around the city are named after people and ships associated with that battle. Trafalgar Street is the main street of the city. Nelson's Māori name, Whakatū, means "a place to stand", literally meaning "home". Description courtesy of Wikipedia

Nelson is the artistic capital of New Zealand. There are innumerable galleries with pottery, art, crafts, you name it, they've got it.

great to see Nelson on the google site. It was the fist place I ever visited in the fifty's when I worked for Port Line on the MV PORT WYNDAM. My memories are still as strong and pleasant of Nelson as then, although I am 70 now, I might just visit It one more time with the WIFE, to mark our fortieth wedding anniversary asit is such a lovely place michael.hunt5@ntlworld.com
