Description

McLaren Falls Park consists of 170 Hectares of lakeland park set amongst pastoral farming and horticulture containing one of the best botanical collections of trees in the North Island. The lake offers year round trout fishing. The park offers plenty of open space, stunning views and meandering tracks through areas of native bush interspersed with exotic trees that provide spectacular autumn and spring colours. The park abounds with a diverse range of birdlife, up to 42 different species including regionally threatened North Island Brown Kiwi, North Island Robin and the Long-Tailed Cuckoo. The three accommodation hostels available are modern and well suited to both back-packers and large groups. Slow vehicle access is available throughout the park providing easy access to picnic and BBQ sites where wood fuel is available. Coin BBQ's are operated with a 50c coin. To get to the park from Tauranga, take State Highway 29 which is the main road to Hamilton and then turn left into McLaren Falls Road. The park is patrolled by Park Rangers.
