Description
The only Botanic garden in New Zealand dedicated solely to native plants, as well as being the country's foremost native plant collection. There are 5 hectares in cultivation and the remaining 90 hectares are of mature and regenerating native bush. The mature podocarp-northern rata forest is the only remnant of this once common forest type in the Wellington peninsula. Otari has 10kms of excellent walking tracks, a 90 metre treetop canopy walkway, large alpine garden and modern visitor centre. Car parking, close to city (frequent public bus transport No 14).
