A new pocket park is planned for the corner of Courtenay Place and Taranaki Street. Work was originally expected to start in June 2006, but was delayed by council wrangling and complaints by retailers, and the decision to go ahead wasn't finalised until September 27 2006. The official name of the park-to-be is yet to be confirmed: some reports call it Courtenay Park, but the sunlight protection provisions (655kB PDF) in the latest District Plan changes refer to it as "Clock Park". The historic men's toilet block will also be renovated and converted into a wine bar.
