Visited the Buenos Aires Tango Bistro for the first time last nite.Had read about it in Capital Times, and decided to go and check out the empanadas. The Bistro is well hidden down the far end of the Left Bank - but once we had located it was welcomed by a friendly waiter with a german accent, and some fine tango music playing in the background. The menu is simple but covers a few Argentinian classic's and the prices are excellent. The Empanadas were excellent - enjoyed the spinach and cheese ones the best. Melanesa Neapolitan was also superb, tender and tasty. I normally struggle with the amount of salt used by most Argentinian chefs - but these guys have adapted their cooking to suit a kiwi palate. Finished off with a lesson on how to drink Mate tea which was excellent. A great nite out - nice cafe, very casual and relaxed environment, will be better once they get a license - some good Argentinian malbec would have gone down a treat. Recommended.
