Carterton is in its 150th year, and every month there are celebrations worth attending.
Let us go down in history for the correct reason, enjoy living in a lovely town and make use of what we have, great Mayor too!
In February this year, Carterton hosted the Carterton UK Mayoral Party, oh yes, another Carterton, and what a lovely place it is too, in Oxfordshire. Any of Carterton NZ Folk to visit UK, please call into to their Carterton, and make your self known in the Council, a welcome awaits you.
I was invited to Carterton UK, in 2004 for an unveiling ceremony, it was William Carter who founded their town, of Poole Pottery fame.. they were to unveil a Blue Plaque in his honour, and it is on their Council Office Building. Met the Gt. Grandson of William and his son etc...
So it was great to meet up with the UK folk this year in our town, just like old friends..
Our Carterton, has had a poem composed for our Anniversary, copies of which are obtainable through our Information Centre, composed by Trevor Rowe, who gave permission to allow us to copy it, normally his work is copyright, he spent a few days here last year, seeing what we had to offer, loved the town and surroundings..
Whilst overseas, I visited the area where our Charles Rooking Carter came from, also visited his family burial plot in Derbyshire, sadly his wife died whilst staying at Buxton. He is buried here at Clareville.
What I would like to see in our town, as I love all the old shop buildings, have them done in Heritage colours, this will smarten them up. I can remember some years ago someone came up from Petone with ideas.........
This is a lovely friendly town...
Lets work together and keep positive...

Carterton is a great place to live in, it has so much going for it. More businesses are opening up, means keeping locals working.
Shame we are losing the Phoenix Theatre.
Carterton must be one of the prettiest towns around, lovely flowers out all the time.
The new complex for Holloway Street.. far too much money it will be a white elephant.
What is wrong with the Memorial Club for holding reviews? We had Old Time Music Hall there a few months ago, great, good seating. kitchen provided us with good refreshments, lets make good what we have.
Spend money on drainage. water and sewerage before you think of spending $5.plus. million on a White Elephant. How many folk frequented the Phoenix over the last say 10years, bet half the residents did not know Carterton had its own theatre complex, in the old band room...
If we need a theatre, pop along to Greytown's lovely little theatre!
Many residents are having difficulties paying their rates now, what will it be like with the new Complex? Winz are helping them now, bet they wont help with the extra caused by the new enterprise!
How can little clubs afford to rent a room in the new complex, they can little afford things now.
I don't like the idea of the new complex next to the purpose built Historic Library, its a wonderful building, and should remain standing on its own in its own glory.
thank you.

Election time is upon us and 4 people are standing for mayor.I went to the RSA on Wednesday night and did listen to all four prospective candidates. It was interesting to listen to.Rate payers want accountability for the increased rates. What none of them referred to was the increased suburban development goin on. The rates are increasing because the Council keep allowing developers to build new subdivisions, that seemed to be overlooked?

I love carterton, it's a quiet folk town.

Hi Yorkshire Lass yes the Portmans live near me and run the Clareville Garden Centre

I am sorry to see any negative comments about Carterton as it is a lovely little town with a great mayor. We are celebrating our 150th year and have just enjoyed that most wonderful Pioneer Dinner celebration attended by a full capacity crowd of 120. A great night for everyone

Does anyone know of Alan and Faye Portman or Portland who owns the Carterton Garden Centre

There seem to be a lot of people around that are a bit free and easy with there critique of Gary McPhee...Maybe if people felt this strongly there should have been more opposition in the race for the mayoralty.
I do however agree with Hank about the "shopping complex". Carterton would be a great place for trendier clothes stores that you would otherwise have to got to Wellington or Palmy for. But as always more people in town will mean more places to park, maybe Carterton School could be demolished to accomodate.

Corrupt Police busy themselves bullying and harrassing the visionaries while crime skyrockets. Dirty and run down, full of hypocracy and ignorance, fear, mistrust and division. No community services any more, no community centre, garden, health centre.
Posted 2006-11-06T14:15:26.000Z

A sad, run down hole, administered by a corrupt group of bullies, led by a transvestite prostitute and a drunken biker who boasts of getting away with a nasty home invasion and assault which the Police never even investigated.

Carterton needs an injection of visionaries..Its like walking back in time by 20 years...Carterton could be something if only they would accept change and growth...With all those vinyards down the road they are sitting on a goldmine...

Carterton is nothing but a ghosttown. Just look at the C.D.C,proving just how useless they really are.
Its the rate payers and the youth that i feel sorry for.

they should sell it

The community notices board says, "Are you sick of an empty police station"?
Posted 2006-06-29T09:46:55.000Z

did you see Gary McGee in the paper? With his new community notices board?
Posted 2006-06-29T09:44:58.000Z

I would rather that the millions planned to be spent on the proposed Community Centre be spent on a really good multi-store Shopping Centre.
Does anyone else agree?

Carterton is now coming alive at long last.. trendy places to eat.. Do we need the trendy Community Hall, or will it become a white elephant? The residents have a choice, yes or no to the new venture. Concerned resident.

I think the townspeople are just going with th eflow as far as this expensive Community hall is concerned. We will always have vandalism if we do not consider the requiremnt s of all age groups.
