Hey Uther, that shed is actually the old plant room for boilers, airconditioning and wotnot! I agree painfully visible when driving up Molesworth. Rumour has it that there are plans afoot to replace these with apartments and the building will be repainted in 3 or 4 shades to reduce its bulk. A very smart idea.
Hopefully one day council can also create a more active edge on the road reserve frontage, a small resting place with some benches perhaps.
An interesting form but hardly original. It would have been good to have taken advantage of the seaward aspect here but we are talking about a cake-tin!
While certainly bold and noteworthy this addition relies on the otherwise stately 1906 construction to act as a mere plinth. I don't think the two mesh all that well together but the overall effect serves to put the apartment addition on its own pedestal.
