Waikawa is a small town with a big history, the museum has a wonderful collection of historic facts and relics, the town is situated nearby to the famous petrified forrest at Curio Bay.

The Fortrose Estuary is a great place for water sports. The wide Estuary allows canoe and rowing sports, water skiing, other recreational sports like fishing are popular as the Mataura River, (renown for it's trout) flows into the estuary.
